project. The driver was unable to make the tight corner, so he
decided to back up and try again. As he backed up the rear of
the 52' long tractor trailer accelerated my client's intent to
renovate the front of their apartment building. The tenant came
home to find the old battered roof posing as a front entrance blockade.
The style of the house interior has a federal / colonial feel to
the decor so we decided to bring that motif to the entrance of the
building too. We were quite fortunate to find that the capitals that
support the roof were not damaged, other than separated from the building.
above the old roof, so my client wanted to reproduce the same
idea, but this time, in a three dimensional way. As you see in
each of the photos we decided to add a plain, but effective embossed
emblem to the keystone wanting to highlight the look of the entrance.
Though we did not want to draw the eye exclusively to the roof,
we did want to ad some depth to the motif.
to the roofing system, but we did feel that using an aluminum roofing
material would be more beneficial in the long run over the conventional
tin roof previously used. Tin has a habit of pitting and requires more
upkeep than the aluminum roofing which we decided to use. We also used an
aluminum pan on the under side of the unit to give the unit a more smooth and
finished look. Each piece of aluminum was hand fitted as well as the under-pan.
the entrance of the building without the new roof becoming too overt.
We decided on a three color scheme. The darker color for the girth of
the unit and the two lighter colors to add height and depth. Dental
moulding was incorporated so as to help with adding depth which we
painted a muted yellow while the body of the entrance was cream in color.
The rest of the building will undergo restoration in coming months too.
